In 1980 American rocker Billy Squier released a song called The Big Beat. The track opens with an immediately iconic drum riff as Billy proclaims, 'I got the big beat! I hear the sound!' Over the last 40 years, the drum hook has been sampled on almost 300 songs including Jay Z's 99 Problems, Dizzee Rascal's Fix Up Look Sharp and The Prodigy's Spitfire.
