Blog: Signature Brew x Toast Ale COP26 Companion Series
Collaboration is at the heart of what we do at Signature Brew. Granted it’s usually collaborating with musicians, but we also care deeply about the environment.
When our friends at Toast Ale invited us to be part of this incredible collaboration - together with breweries across the country including Adnams, Guiness, Meantime, Brixton and more - with a chance to make a clear statement that our planet can and should be saved… we were in.
So, we signed an open letter to world leaders meeting at COP26, calling for co-operation to protect people and nature from the effects of the global climate crisis, and brewed a delicious toasted lager, made with surplus bread to remove food waste and as part of the Toast Companion series.
The letter urges leaders to seize the ‘once in a lifetime opportunity to protect people and nature from the effects of the global climate crisis.’ It highlights reducing food waste as a key measure in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and deforestation, citing evidence that food systems are responsible for one-third of GHG emissions and 80% of deforestation.
Alongside the open letter, each participating brewery brewed a new beer for the Companion Series, a limited-edition collection of beers that used surplus bread that would otherwise have gone to waste. Toast Ale, who coordinated the series and letter, has been brewing with bread since the company was founded in 2015. They also supplied pre-prepared surplus crumb and shared expertise with the fellow breweries to support the circular economy at this critical time.
£26 from every case sold is donated to preserve and regenerate nature: Protecting 3.25 million trees in threatened tropical rainforests with Rain Forest Trust UK and supporting UK farmers to restore soil health with Soil Heroes capturing 360 tonnes of CO2, holding more water & improving biodiversity.

Concrete Jungle - Toasted Lager
This mouthwateringly malty beer was brewed with our friends at Toast Ale as part of their charity COP26 series. Love beer, love the planet.
Heavy on roasted malt flavour with a strong bitterness, lingering Toffee notes and subtle breadiness (surprise surprise) and a hint of smoke.
20% of the malt base included reclaimed bread crumb, attributing to toasty, bready flavours, a small addition of crystal malt and a portion of Vienna base malt give it a roasty character and its amber hue.
